Handing Back Artwork

Sounds easy right? I don't know why I have trouble remembering to do this!

Some classes I have a few projects from. I remember of course right while they are in line or right after they leave.

I have been better lately.... I have pulled the old artwork out with the stuff they are working on during their 5 minutes of drawing time (I love this time! I don't know how I did without it last year!). But even then I sometimes run out of time.

I don't like to have kids hand it out because the grade is on the back with their names. So that leaves it to me- and with all the questions and management of students I forget more times than not.

One of my goals this year was to get artwork graded and handed back in a timely manner. It is all graded- so I have half of it down! :) I NEED a system! Any suggestions???

  1. I have trouble remembering to do this too. Sometimes when it's been forever, or I have too much stacking up I will resort to putting the artwork in the teacher's mailbox. I have never gotten any complaints about it. (Last year I did send out an email asking teachers to let me know their preference, mailbox or pass in class. Most didn't care. I made a list and put it by my computer. Those that said pass in class I tried not to put in their mailboxes.) Usually when I pass it back in class I do it before line up, I call their names and put their paper on a table and they come get their paper and then line up. I call names as quickly as I have space on the table to lay papers. For most classes it's almost as fast as calling quiet tables to line up. The key is remembering. I keep their graded artwork in their class bin so I see it when getting out current artwork and if I have the presence of mind I will take it out and put it somewhere that I'll see it throughout class. Sometimes I ask a student to remind me to hand it out. Perhaps you could even put the artwork next to that student at their table, to help them remember to remind you.
You're probably doing most of that already. I don't know why it's so hard to remember. And it seems when I do remember, those are the days when there's no time because of the lesson or because the class is so ridiculously slow about cleaning up. Let me know if you find a good solution!
